I have always had a love/hate relationship with work. On the one hand, I have a tendency to become a little workaholic when I get into a position that I love. On the other hand, I often wish that I were independently wealthy so that I could just do things for which I have a passion. (like gardening)
To be able to love my job I have to find the work challenging. If it isn't challenging I will find a way to make it more involved. I like puzzles, riddles, crosswords, jigsaws. If it's a mystery, I'm there.
I also love to organize things. Putting items in groups, putting up shelving and making everything look neat is sooooooo satisfying.
Consequently, working with people who are slobs is soooooooo frustrating. I don't think I'm a neat freak, but I like order.
So right now I am approaching my 6 mos. anniversary at a new job. Time enough to make my mark (a little) but not yet time enough to be distinguished as "the best one ever".
This is a job where I spend at least half of my work days alone. I find I love it! I used to think that I had to fit in and have someone to eat with in the cafeteria.
Now I discover I love listening to music while I work and eating when I feel like it and not because the clock says 12:30PM. In retrospect, I think it was my co-workers that made me hate my previous jobs.
Poor co-workers. I guess I was just messin' with them. :)
