Well, I have not blogged faithfully (obviously). So many things have happened since my last post. Left that job, got another.
Now I have a new attitude. Although I still want to do a good days work for my pay, I want my payback to be fair too.
No more unpaid overtime, putting up with verbal abuse, giving up my family responsibilities for the sake of my employer or feeling bad about me.
I'm trying to stick to my guns on this one.

A Good Day
Today I had a good day at work. It was my performance review after 6 months on the job.
I hoped it would be favourable. We started out to lunch at a nice restaurant. We sat on the patio and it was a beautiful sunny day.
After ordering our lunch, my boss began. It turns out that she IS happy with my work (thank God!) and she wants to hire clerical assistance on contract to allow me to escape the drudgery of faxing and photocopying so that I can learn a little more about the business and spend more time on client services.
Sounds great to me! All this plus a pay raise. What more could I ask?
I have to think of some special way to say thank you. I'm on vacation next week so I'll keep my eyes open for just the right thing.
Yup ... a good day.

Work

I have always had a love/hate relationship with work. On the one hand, I have a tendency to become a little workaholic when I get into a position that I love. On the other hand, I often wish that I were independently wealthy so that I could just do things for which I have a passion. (like gardening)
To be able to love my job I have to find the work challenging. If it isn't challenging I will find a way to make it more involved. I like puzzles, riddles, crosswords, jigsaws. If it's a mystery, I'm there.
I also love to organize things. Putting items in groups, putting up shelving and making everything look neat is sooooooo satisfying.
Consequently, working with people who are slobs is soooooooo frustrating. I don't think I'm a neat freak, but I like order.
So right now I am approaching my 6 mos. anniversary at a new job. Time enough to make my mark (a little) but not yet time enough to be distinguished as "the best one ever".
This is a job where I spend at least half of my work days alone. I find I love it! I used to think that I had to fit in and have someone to eat with in the cafeteria.
Now I discover I love listening to music while I work and eating when I feel like it and not because the clock says 12:30PM. In retrospect, I think it was my co-workers that made me hate my previous jobs.
Poor co-workers. I guess I was just messin' with them. :)

First Entry
Welcome to my blog! Hoping this will be a way to express my feelings and observations about my world and this crazy life that we are all living.
